America’s live entertainment industry proudly exhibits a combination of talent, excellence, and technical proficiency like no other place in the world. As an entertainment producer who was raised in South America and blessed with the opportunity to tour the world, I have always praised the level of professionalism that the performing arts community in the US has acquired and sustained over the years. I’ve seen several amazing productions in Europe and Asia, however it’s America that has undeniably set the standards for the world’s finest entertainment. Michael Porter would define it as one of the nation’s competitive advantages. This supremacy has been constantly fed by one key element: collaboration. Trades that attain success understand the power behind systematic collaboration. Moreover, in-depth collaboration allows industries to expand and become influential. Accordingly, industry clusters — also known as Porterian clusters — like Broadway, Las Vegas, and Orlando, have reached a critical threshold in which collaboration between participants has become one of the most important elements in maximizing productivity and encouraging innovation.
Driven by their eager for permanent growth, effective collaborators of our trade are the ones who primarily focus on expanding and sharing knowledge. Consequently, they ensure the quality of education by promoting the development of advanced training organizations such as universities, technical institutions, and research centers. A perfect example of how participants put collaboration into practice is LDI’s recent announcement of establishing a five-year partnership with PLASA. LDI is one of the most important trade shows in the US primarily devoted to entertainment technology. On the other hand, PLASA is a renowned international entertainment technology trade organization for companies supplying technologies and services to the entertainment industries around the globe. Specialists claim that this agreement clearly reinforces the international vision that many members of the industry are trying to promote. Furthermore, PLASA will not only provide European connections for fruitful networking opportunities at LDI’s annual trade show, but will also broaden training options for industry professionals. At the same time, PLASA will strategically benefit from larger exposure in the U.S by taking part in the entertainment industry’s leading summit of cutting-edge technology for theater, concerts, houses of worship, theme parks, clubs, museums and even corporate presentations.
This announcement should be interpreted as an endeavor to build a more collaborative environment. Therefore, if the relationship between PLASA and LDI thrives in the following five years, we will probably witness similar agreements that will help other organizations build bridges between professional entertainers all around the world.
